„Photo stories” is an educational project about the Holocaust. The project was an attempt to present a dramatic history of Jews through photographies, both modern and dated back to the Second World War and the period before 1939. The photographs serve as a background for the story, a pretext for learing the history, presented directly or indirectly. The emphasis was put mainly on non-formal education and it is an attempt to comprehend the event of the Holocaust, not only as a historical event, but also in terms of major human rights violation, issues such as anti-Semitism, racism or intolerance.
The goals of the project were achieved by:
- theoretical workshops
- documentary and digital photography workshops
- study visits to the places of Lublin Jewish community history
- preparation and delivery of the exhibition and presentations.
The works created as a part of the project (lesson scenarios/photo and video documentation) are uploaded to the project's web site, prepared in two languages (Polish and English). We hope it will inspire other educators to similar activities in Lublin, Poland or, due to the English version of the site, possibly in other countries as well.
The project was coordinated by: Magdalena Kawa and Joanna Stachyra-Galant (Homo Faber Association) and Beata Król (Stanisław Staszic High School No.1 in Lublin)
